I Call Shotgun! is a roadtrip planner. By default your trips live on your own device. You only create cloud data if you sign in (to sync trips) or share a trip link. Here's exactly what that means.
I Call Shotgun! is operated by Limestone Labs LLC, a Texas limited liability company based in Austin, Texas. You can reach us at info@limestonelabs.cc.
By default the app works without an account, and your data stays in your device's local storage:
This information is not transmitted to us in anonymous mode. Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app removes it. Because it lives only on your device, we can't recover it for you if it's lost.
If you choose to sign in, we use Clerk as our authentication provider (email or Google sign-in). From Clerk we receive an account identifier and, where provided, your email address. When you're signed in, your trips are synced to our database (Cloudflare D1) so they're available across your devices. We store the trip contents and the timestamp, associated with your account identifier.
When you create a share link, we store a snapshot of that trip in our database under a random hard-to-guess slug. Anyone who has the link can view that snapshot, so only share it with people you intend to. If you were signed in when you created it, your account identifier is recorded with the share. To have a shared trip removed, email us (see Section 9).
I Call Shotgun! does not track your device in the background, and it doesn't continuously read your GPS. Locations enter the app mainly because you type or pick destinations. When you ask for a route, search for stops, or load weather, we send the relevant coordinates or place names to the mapping and weather providers below to get results back. If you use a feature that reads your current position, your browser or device will prompt you for permission first, and you can decline.
We send only the data each provider needs to do its job, never your identity beyond what's noted:
| Service | Purpose | Data sent |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare (USA) | Hosts the app and database (D1); processes requests | Synced trips and share snapshots (if you sign in or share); request logs |
| Clerk | Sign-in / account management (if you sign in) | Your sign-in credentials; we receive an account ID and email |
| MapQuest | Routing and place/stop search | Waypoint coordinates and search terms |
| OSRM | Fallback routing | Route coordinates |
| OpenStreetMap / Nominatim | Map tiles and address/place geocoding | Map area being viewed; address or place text you search |
| U.S. Census Bureau | U.S. address geocoding | The address you enter |
| National Weather Service (NWS/NOAA) | U.S. weather forecasts and alerts along your route | Coordinates only, no personal data |
| Expanding shared Google Maps short links; opening directions/places you tap | The link or place you act on; map fonts/CDN assets | |
| Slack | Receiving feedback you submit in the app | Your message, and your name/email if you include them |
These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We don't use advertising networks or third-party analytics SDKs.
Exporting your trip to a calendar generates a standard .ics file on your device that you choose to import; we don't transmit it. "Open in Maps" and directions buttons open Google Maps or Apple Maps in your browser or device with the destination you tapped. If your phone is connected to CarPlay or Android Auto, navigation and calendar entries you've added on your device may appear there through those built-in systems; I Call Shotgun! has no separate access to your vehicle.
We don't set advertising or analytics cookies and we don't run third-party trackers. The app uses your browser's local storage and a service-worker cache to function offline. Cloudflare keeps basic operational logs (including IP addresses) to deliver and secure the Service. A built-in feedback form is rate-limited by IP to prevent spam.
You can delete trips in the app. In anonymous mode, clearing your browser/app data removes everything stored locally. If you have an account, you can delete synced trips, and you can request deletion of your account and associated cloud data, or removal of a shared trip, by emailing info@limestonelabs.cc with "Privacy Request" in the subject. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data; we aim to honor these for all users and to respond within 30 days.
The Service is free. Optional donation links open Stripe, Ko-fi, or Buy Me a Coffee in your browser; those services handle any payment under their own privacy policies and we don't receive your card details.
I Call Shotgun! is a general-audience app intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and continued use after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance.
